Philadelphia Eagles WATCH: Jalen Hurts Finds DeVonta Smith For Fourth-Quarter TD
While receiver A.J. Brown is having another monster game, it was the other star Philadelphia Eagles receiver who came up with a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown reception that allowed the team to pull even with the Washington Commanders.
Receiver DeVonta Smith caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Hurts with 8:47 left in the game's final quarter. Kicker Jake Elliott capped off the drive with an extra point, allowing the Eagles to tie the game at 17 in the fourth quarter.
Earlier on this drive, the aforementioned Brown became the first player in NFL history to record six consecutive games with 125 or more receiving yards. Smith -- a former Heisman Trophy winner -- is arguably the best No. 2 receiver in the NFL, which he made sure to remind the world of with this catch. Smith entered the game with 32 catches for 383 yards this season, which follows up a 95-reception, 1,196-yard season in 2022.
This marks the second time this season that the Eagles and Commanders have met, and the first time was also an excellent game. In Week 4 at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles defeated Washington 34-31, with an Elliott field goal in overtime allowing Philadelphia to escape with the victory. You get the feeling that this game may also come down to whoever has the ball last, perhaps even in overtime.
The Eagles entered the game at 6-1, in control of the top spot in the NFC East and NFC as a whole. Meanwhile, Washington is 3-4, looking to remain in the playoff picture.
