Eagles vs. Browns Preseason: QB Tanner McKee Helps Philly Tie Cleveland: Live Updates
After spending this week doing joint practices at the Novacare Complex, the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Cleveland Browns Thursday evening at Lincoln Financial Field in a preseason tilt.
For the Eagles, this will be their second preseason game, as they lost 20-19 to the Ravens last Saturday in Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Browns are already onto their third game of the preseason, having defeated the New York Jets in the Hall of Fame Game before losing to the Washington Commanders last Friday.
Given that the two teams have been able to scrimmage against each other in a controlled environment since Monday, it's unlikely that Hurts will play much, if at all, Thursday. Deshaun Watson won't play at all for the Browns.
Still, there are some interesting quarterbacks to consider for both teams.
While veteran Marcus Mariota is going to be Hurts' backup this season, Eagles rookie quarterback Tanner McKee showed some promise in his first preseason action last weekend. Though he only completed 10 of 20 passes, the sixth-round pick accumulated 148 passing yards and also had a seven-yard run against the Ravens. The 6-foot-6, 228-pound quarterback likely doesn't project as a starter at the NFL level, but if he looks the part the rest of the preseason, it could help him to eventually get consideration to be QB2 for the Eagles.
Like the Eagles, the Browns have a veteran backup under contract behind their star quarterback, with Josh Dobbs back for his second stint in Cleveland. But while Dobbs and Kellen Mond are currently listed above him, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been one of the most talked about players across the league so far this preseason. The UCLA product -- a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft -- has completed 19 of 21 pass attempts for 184 yards and two touchdowns so far this preseason. He's also added 47 rushing yards, which comes after he rushed for 12 touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
McKee and Thompson-Robinson are two of the storylines we'll be keeping an eye on for tonight's preseason game.
Stay tuned for live updates of the game.
