Falcons Free Agency: Interest in Signing Jaguars CB Tre Herndon?
The Atlanta Falcons are one of several teams interested in Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Tre Herndon, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.
"I'm told Herndon is not returning to Jacksonville. We'll see how his market continues to unfold," Anderson said while also stating the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants as destination options.
With Isaiah Oliver set to hit free agency, the Falcons are in need of a replacement in the secondary and the 27-year-old could be a potential suitor.
After going undrafted in 2018, Herndon has played 67 games over the past five seasons (including 30 starts), while registering 197 tackles, 23 pass deflections and three interceptions.
Herndon saw a reduced role for a Jaguars team that reached the AFC Divisional Round last season, starting just one game in his 15 appearances but still racked up 36 tackles, five pass deflections and a fumble recovery.
Per Pro Football Focus, the 5-11 and 185-pound back played 300 of his 572 defensive snaps at the slot cornerback position in 2022.
Herndon signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agency in 2018 to a three-year, $1.7 million deal that expired last offseason but returned to Jacksonville on a one-year deal worth $1.2 million.
