Falcons RB Tyler Allgeier: 'Undervalued Fantasy Backup'?
Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier was arguably the biggest rookie surprise last season.
A fifth-round pick in 2022, Allgeier broke Atlanta's rookie rushing record (1,035) in the final week of last season season, while finishing third among all first-year backs - only trailing Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Etienne and Seattle Seahawks Kenneth Walker.
But despite everything the former BYU star accomplished, the Falcons drafted a running back for the second consecutive year - only this time in the first round.
With the addition of Texas product Bijan Robinson, Atlanta must decide how to utilize both players this upcoming year.
"Even with Bijan Robinson on the roster and Cordarrelle Patterson also in the fold, Tyler Allgeier is being undervalued in fantasy," Bleacher Report writes. "The 23-year-old caught just 16 passes as a rookie last season but amassed 1,174 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns.
"With offensive coordinator Dave Ragone likely to again use a committee approach, Allgeier should have some mid-level flex value right out of the gate. Managers should expect Allgeier to see 10-15 touches per game even as the backup."
After finishing third in the NFL in rushing offense last season, Robinson not only adds an explosive athlete in the backfield, but as a pass-catcher as well. Over his three seasons as a Longhorn, the Doak Walker award winner racked up 60 receptions and 805 yards, and a big reason why Falcons head coach Arthur Smith believes they received "not just a running back."
If these two can co-exist offensively, the Falcons very well could have the league's best rushing attack.
