Mock Draft Monday: Offensive Tackle Becoming Popular Pick for Jets

Sports Illustrated's NFL Mock Draft 5.0 has Gang Green landing a Georgia Bulldog in Round 1

Another mock draft, another offensive tackle to the New York Jets.

Sports Illustrated’s Kevin Hanson debuted the 2023 NFL Mock Draft 5.0 last week, projecting Gang Green selects a bookend at No. 13 overall.

Hanson predicts two offensive tackles going off the board prior to the Jets’ time on the first-round clock.

In this scenario, the Chicago Bears would take Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr at No. 9 overall with the Tennessee Titans drafting Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski two picks later.

Then, the Houston Texans would use the No. 12 selection on Iowa edge rusher Luke Van Ness, leaving highly-regarded Georgia left tackle Broderick Jones to the Jets

The 6-foot-5 Jones made 15 starts for the Bulldogs during their undefeated 2022 National Championship run.

13. New York Jets: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

Jones stepped up for Georgia during the 2021 campaign, starting the last four regular season games at left tackle. He played all offensive snaps in the Bulldogs’ victories over Tennessee and Missouri.

Jones, who earned All-Southeastern Conference First Team honors from the Associated Press in 2022, recorded notable measurements along with a fast 40-yard dash time at the 2023 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. The behemoth blindside protector topped all offensive line participants by running the 40 in 4.97s.

Adding to his first-round draft profile, Jones, who weighed in at 311 pounds, displayed 34.75-inch arm length.

NFL Draft Bible founder Ric Serritella also recently mocked Jones to the Jets at No. 13 overall as did Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings. Serritella said he can see five offensive tackles being drafted in the 10-pick span that represents that middle third of Round 1.

The 2023 NFL Draft will kick off on April 27 in Kansas City. The Jets currently own six selections over the course of the three-day event.

As a result of last week’s trade that sent receiver Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns, Gang Green holds back-to-back picks in Round 2.

The Jets’ scheduled selections are as follows: Round 1 (13), Round 2 (42), Round 2 (43), Round 4 (112), Round 5 (143), Round 6 (207).
