Jets' Fantasy Report: One Start, One Sit for Sunday Night Football vs. Chiefs

Keeping the faith in WR1, but ditching the defense against high-powered KC attack

With the offense stuck in neutral, the New York Jets aren't overflowing with viable fantasy options at the moment.

The Jets are likely a non-factor in daily fantasy formats until further notice, but there are plenty of weekly team managers who invested in the Green & White this season, especially with the idea that Aaron Rodgers would be slinging the rock.

For those fantasy teams who bought high on Garrett Wilson or took an early-round chance on Breece Hall, all is not lost yet. This Week 4 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs may not be the best opportunity for Hall to ball out, but there will be chances to turn him loose as the season continues.

When it comes to running backs on both sides of Sunday night's Jets-Chiefs matchup, SI Fantasy expert Michael Fabiano suggests to stay away. Fabiano listed Kansas City sophomore Isiah Pacheco as one of his five featured running back "sits" of the week while also declaring that Hall and Dalvin Cook belong on the bench for Sunday Night Football.

Week 4 Fantasy Outlook: Stay Away from RBs on Sunday Night Football

As for the Jets Country SIT and START this week, we are standing by our WR1 while temporarily sidelining the defense.

START: Garrett Wilson, WR

We invested an early second-round draft pick in Wilson, but the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is averaging only 54.0 yard receiving per game by no fault of his own. Dealing with subpar quarterback play, Wilson has consistently shown the ability to win his routes and create separation down field. Now, if the Jets can just get the ball to him in a timely fashion.

Wilson hasn't been a complete bust as the WR1 found the endzone each of the first two weeks, but the Jets lack of redzone opportunities certainly aren't helping his value. With that said, I am still expecting Wilson to play a major role on Sunday night regardless of game flow.

If the Jets succeed on offense against the Chiefs, it'll likely be a product of the game-breaking ability that Wilson showed when he took a slant pass 68 yards to the house at Dallas. If the Jets fall behind early, they'll have to increase their number of pass plays with Wilson being the clear-cut No. 1 target. The man responsible for the Jets' lone two TD receptions this season should get multiple opportunities to score on Sunday Night Football.

If you're starting to lose hope, just remember that Wilson put up 1,103 yards on 83 receptions with four different quarterbacks in 2022.

SIT: Jets' Defense

The Gang Green defense is in a tough spot with the reigning Super Bowl champions in town. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs can put up the points in a hurry while stressing opposing defenses to the max. Kansas City is averaging a robust 5.8 yards per play (third in NFL) through three weeks.

The presence of Travis Kelce is especially troubling for the Week 4 showdown. The All-Pro tight end is a natural mismatch and will likely find the weak spots in the Jets' coverage. Meanwhile, the Green & White's pressure rate has yet to reach the heights it did one season ago.

The bulk of a defense's fantasy points come from takeaways and sacks and the Jets haven't produced in either category the past two weeks. Gang Green has not forced a turnover since Week 1 and the pass rush has generated only one sack in back-to-back losses.
