Aaron Rodgers Has Invitation to Meet the Mets

Speaking on the Pat McAree Show, the superstar quarterback mentioned offer from the National League Baseball team

Maybe Aaron Rodgers can give the New York Mets an inning or two on the hill. They sure could use it.

The Major League Baseball club from Queens has invited Rodgers to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a game this season. The New York Jets’ new quarterback mentioned it during his May 2 appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers delivered the news after McAfee show producer Ty Schmit asked the four-time NFL MVP when he was going to visit Yankee Stadium.

“Could you maybe run it up the ladder to someone, and be like ‘Hey, I’d love to throw out a first pitch at Yankee Stadium and turn the [expletive] juju around there, because the Yankees are in the basement right now,” said Schmit.

The Yankees had lost four in a row when the show was streamed live. The Bronx Bombers were 15-15 overall, sitting 8.5 games out of first place. They have won back-to-back contests since, but still remain at the bottom of the American League East.

Rodgers, a McAfee Show regular, said he welcomes the idea.

“Listen I would love to, I really would,” said Rodgers.

The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback has attended a New York Rangers' Stanley Cup Playoffs game and two New York Knicks' Eastern Conference semifinal affairs at Madison Square Garden, all in a one-week span.

After complimenting the McAfee Show draft coverage, Rodgers shifted the conversation to New York’s National League team.

“Listen, the Mets actually reached out,” said Rodgers. “I haven’t heard from the Yankees yet, though. I don’t know if they tried to reach out or not, but I would love to do that at some point. I want to go to Yankee Stadium and Citi Field as well – both of them,” said Rodgers.

McAfee suggested the Mets play the “trumpets” for Rodgers’ first pitch moment, alluding to the “Narco” song that plays every time closer Edwin Diaz enters from the bullpen. Unfortunately for the Mets, Diaz will not throw a single pitch this season due to a preseason injury he suffered at the World Baseball Classic.

Whether it comes from an unlikely source like Rodgers, or not, the Mets need help right now. Their pitching staff has been unreliable, and the team is 2-8 over its last 10 games.

Rodgers, however, warns he may be only able to do so much.

“I haven’t thrown a first pitch out in a while. Not sure what it would be, but I’d definitely be trying to throw that thing pretty hard,” said Rodgers.
