Actor/comedian Ray Romano knows what it’s like to have throngs of fans want your attention and time.

So when the “Everybody Loves Raymond” star and lifelong New York Jets fan got a chance to talk to the team’s newest quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, at Lake Tahoe earlier this week he wanted to make sure he and his three even more fanatical sons didn’t wear out their welcome.

“I didn’t want to bother him too much,” Romano, 65, said Friday after the first round of the 34th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

The two celebrities have crossed paths several times over the years as regulars at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, but that was when Rodgers was a Green Bay Packer.

Rodgers’ switching of green jerseys has Romano, a Queens native, giddy on the inside, even if Jets history has him trepidatious on the outside. They haven’t won a Super Bowl title since after the 1968 season, when Romano was 11 and 15 years before Rodgers’ birth.

“I’ve got cautious excitement,” he said before chatting with Rodgers later in the afternoon. “I’m excited for the obvious reasons. We have a Hall of Fame quarterback coming. We have some great young guys – gotta keep them healthy.

“And I’m cautious because I’ve been a Jets fan for a long time, and nothing against the Jets but things happen in football. I would lie if I said there wasn’t excitement. I just don’t want to admit to it.”

Romano, who had his sons Gregory, Matthew and Joseph with him when he approached Rodgers earlier in the week, talked a little bit about the Jets.

“My boys are super die-hard Jets fans,” he said. “They wanted to say hello to him, so we went over and said hello.

“I said, ‘You’re one of us’ now. We talked about “Hard Knocks.” And he was positive (about the Jets’ season). He said it looks good.”
