Garrett Wilson Commits to No. 17 for 2023

The Jets' WR1 plans to make a change after his sophomore season

The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year isn't changing his jersey number, for now.

New York Jets' second-year receiver Garrett Wilson, who wore No. 17 during his award-winning rookie campaign, posted a tweet concerning his threads for 2023.

"I’m in 17 this season. 5 the season following," said Wilson in a tweet that was sent on the first day of the NFL's off-season player program.

So, it appears your No. 17 Wilson replica jersey is safe for 2023, buy you'll need an update in 2024. At least Wilson is giving fans time to prepare.

Wilson wore No. 5 while starring at Ohio State and his college jersey number became available with the Jets when quarterback Mike White left in free agency.

In his final collegiate season, the Buckeyes' receiver earned All-America First Team honors while donning a No. 5 jersey. Wilson logged 1,134 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 games during the 2021 NCAA campaign.

After Gang Green made him the No. 10 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, the 6-foot Wilson led the team in receiving as a first-year pro. His 83 receptions, 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdown catches were all Jets' season-high marks.

Wilson's WR1 level production came in spite of New York's instability at quarterback. Between injuries and ineptitude, Gang Green was forced to use four different signal callers last fall.

After a four-catch showing in his NFL debut, Wilson exploded the following week by torching the Cleveland Browns for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-30 road win. He started all 17 games, gaining at least 89 yards receiving on seven occasions.
