The New York Jets could be without their veteran placekicker in Sunday's road game against the Dallas Cowboys

Dealing with a "groin" issue, Greg Zuerlein is being held out of practice on Friday in Florham Park. Gang Green's third-year head coach Robert Saleh labeled the 35-year-old kicker as having a "50-50" chance to play in Week 2.

"He won't participate today in practice. He's not out for the game. He's dealing with a groin. See how that works over the next couple of days," said Saleh.

Jets' brass is preparing in the event that Zuerlein is unable to take the field on Sunday at Dallas.

"We're 50-50 [on whether he will play], working out kickers today," said Saleh. "It's not serious, but serious enough to bring this game in question."

Saleh referred to the injury as a "knuckleball" for general manager Joe Douglas.

"Joe and his staff, they're on it. Get all these kickers in for a workout to see which one would be best available come Sunday," said Saleh. "Gotta roll with the punches."

Also affectionately known as "Greg the Leg," Zuerlein was effective in the season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. He made all three of his three-point attempts, including a go-ahead kick with 1:48 remaining in regulation.

Zuerlein re-signed with the Jets this past March after a productive first season with the franchise. Coming to the Green & White after a stint with the Cowboys, he accounted for a 30-of-37 clip on field goals in 2022. His 60-yarder in Minnesota set the club record for longest field goal in Jets' history dating back to 1960.
