Rodgers Sends Strong Social Media Message from US Open

Jets' QB shows support for Novak Djokovic and medical freedom on Sunday in Flushing

When it comes to three-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic, New York Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a fan of the legendary tennis player for more reasons than one.

Rodgers attended Djokovic's straight-sets victory over Borno Gojo at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, September 3 and chronicled his day in Flushing on his Instagram story.

Multiple photographers captured Rodgers cheering for Djokovic during the fourth-round match that lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes. Djokovic, who endured a five-set challenge one round earlier, booked his ticket to the quarterfinals with Rodgers in the stands on Sunday.

Chasing his 24th major title, Djokovic is back at the US Open after last year's forced absence. The Serbian-born player, who opted to exercise his medical freedom, was not allowed to enter the country due to a lingering COVID vaccine mandate.

Having also declined the unproven vaccine, Rodgers naturally has a respect for the unfair restrictions and criticism that Djokovic encountered.

Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, capped the day of tennis by paying tribute to Djokovic on Instagram. Using the social media app's story feature, the future Hall-of-Fame field general posted an edited photo of Djokovic preparing to serve.

With a Moderna advertisement appearing the the shot, Rodgers drew a red line through the pharmaceutical company's name. Right above the crossed-out text, the superstar quarterback placed a text overlay that said "🐐 #novaxdjokovic."

It is not that first time that Rodgers has used his social media presence to oppose mandates while supporting vaccine choice. In June, he took a well-warranted jab at mandate-obsessed Dr. Peter Hotez.
