The New York Jets' veteran quarterback options are disappearing in multiples.

Only hours after the New Orleans Saints officially announced the signing of free agent signal caller Derek Carr, the Seattle Seahawks stopped Geno Smith from hitting the market.

Smith, who was poised to become a free agent on March 15, reportedly reached a three-year agreement to stay in Seattle. The deal is worth $105 million according to ESPN's Adam Schefter (theScore’s Jordan Schultz initially reported the breaking news).

Originally selected by the Jets in Round 2 at the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith had experienced minimal success as a starting quarterback until winning the Seattle job prior to the 2022 season.

On his way to winning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, Smith accounted for a career year statistically with the Seahawks. The West Virginia product set personal highs for pass yards (4,282), completion percentage (69.8), touchdown passes (30) and yards per pass attempt (7.5).

Smith, who last played for the Jets in 2016, spent the first four years of his NFL career in New York. His production never increased following his rookie year when he threw for 3,046 yards and 12 touchdowns while being intercepted 21 times in 16 games.

Speculation suggests the Jets are honed in on bringing Aaron Rodgers aboard, but he would have to agree to a trade from the Green Bay Packers. Further complicating the matter, Rodgers is reportedly owed $58 million guaranteed on his current contract.
