The New York Jets made an adjustment to their 16-man Practice Squad on Wednesday morning.

Receiver Irvin Charles is in and defensive lineman Tanzel Smart is out. After releasing Charles from the 53-man roster last week, the Jets signed the Division II product to the Practice Squad. In a corresponding personnel move, Gang Green cut ties with Smart.

Charles made the Green & White's 53-man roster coming out of training camp but was a gameday inactive for the Monday Night Football season opener against the Buffalo Bills. He spent the entire 2022 campaign as a Jets' PS player before receiving a call-up to the active roster for the regular season finale.

Smart, who became a fan favorite during HBO's "Hard Knocks" docuseries, falls victim to the numbers game. Loaded with proven options, the Jets' defensive line rotation is a tough unit to crack. The 28-year-old Smart had been on the Jets' Practice Squad since 2020.

Charles made three receptions for 61 yards during preseason game action this past summer. He was dropped from the Jets' 53-man roster to create a spot for backup quarterback Tim Boyle prior to the Week 2 road battle against the Dallas Cowboys

With Charles back in the fold, the Jets are now carrying two receivers on the Practice Squad. The Green & White inked Malik Taylor to a PS deal on September 12.
