Best Bet: Lions' Offense Leans on Josh Reynolds
The Detroit Lions will enter Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers without their top receiver in Amon-Ra St. Brown.
They will, however, have the season of Jameson Williams in what is expected to be a small role.
Without St. Brown, quarterback Jared Goff will have to rely on his other options. Josh Reynolds has been a key part of the early season passing attack, and Play Michigan writer Drew Ellis believes he could be an impact player in Sunday's game.
"Despite concerns coming into the season over the wide receiver position, Josh Reynolds has proven to be a valuable asset to the passing game," Ellis told All Lions. "He has appeared in all four games this year and has been a big part of the offense. Aside from the Atlanta game, in which Reynolds suited up but wasn’t used as he was not fully healthy, Reynolds has at least 66 receiving yards in the other three games."
The veteran wideout has chemistry with Goff dating back to their time together with the Los Angeles Rams. In parts of three seasons with the Lions, Reynolds has elevated to the top of the depth chart as a reliable receiver.
"Reynolds played especially well last week against Green Bay, making some challenging catches," Ellis said. "With Amon-Ra St. Brown doubtful, Jared Goff is going to look for the guys he trusts to step up. Jameson Williams hasn’t earned that trust yet, while Reynolds has. I like Goff to target Reynolds regularly and make him a big part of the pass attack against the Panthers. That is why my best bet is Reynolds going over 45.5 receiving yards Sunday (-115)."
