Next-Team Odds for Rodgers Continue to Tighten
GREEN BAY, Wis. – Another day, another shift in the next-team odds for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
DraftKings Sportsbook made one adjustment overnight, with the Packers’ odds shortening considerably from +600 on Tuesday to +250 on Thursday to +175 on Friday morning.
The Raiders remain the betting favorite at -350. Their odds did not change, nor did the odds of any of the other potential suitors.
With an implied probability of 77.8 percent, the sportsbook is still leaning heavily toward the Raiders. Green Bay’s implied probability has gone from 14.3 percent on Tuesday to 36.4 percent on Friday.
Speaking at the Super Bowl on Thursday, where he was one of the finalists for the Walter Payton Man of the Year that went to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Aaron Jones told Jim Rome, “I feel like he’ll be back.”
At NFL Honors, ESPN.com’s Dianna Russini spoke briefly with Packers President Mark Murphy.
“We both realize the sooner the better,” Murphy said of Rodgers’ decision on whether he intends to play in 2023. “I know Brian Gutekunst has been in regular contact in with him. I think Aaron has expressed he doesn’t want to drag it out.”
While the Raiders are the betting favorite to be Rodgers’ team for Week 1 of the 2023 season, the perceived front-runner is the New York Jets. With a talented roster that includes the two NFL Rookies of the Year, receiver Garrett Wilson on offense and cornerback Sauce Gardner on defense, the Jets believe they are a quarterback away from contending in the AFC.
Jets owner Woody Johnson on Thursday reiterated his desire to sign a difference-making quarterback.
“We are going to look for an experienced quarterback to come in and help us and help develop these other young players,” he told Russini at NFL Honors.
“You want the best quarterback that you can get to lead the Jets. I think with a good quarterback and our great defense – and the defense will be a lot better with a quarterback that’s actually doing it – it’s plug and play. If a quarterback comes in, it’s kind of an ideal situation.”
Asked specifically about Rodgers, Johnson couldn’t say much but said a lot, “I can’t really talk about him, because he’s a member of another club, but everybody recognizes talent when they see it.”
