GREEN BAY, Wis. – With Grant DuBose and Jeff Cotton sidelined by injuries, the Green Bay Packers have added a receiver in time for training camp.

As first reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV in Houston, the Packers signed Cody Chrest on Tuesday. What could be better than signing with a team before the start of training camp? Signing with your childhood favorite team. In fact, he was in Wisconsin visiting family when he was called to Green Bay for a workout that included quarterback Jacob Eason.

To make room on the roster, they released Cotton before practice on Wednesday morning.

Chrest started his career at Harvard way back in 2016, when he caught six passes in three games as a freshman. After sitting out the 2017 season and playing in one game in 2018 due to a major knee injury, his career took flight in 2019, when he led the team with 45 receptions for 706 yards.

Having earned his degree, he spent his final three seasons alongside his younger brother at Sam Houston State, hauling in 41 passes for 463 yards and two touchdowns in 2020, 54 passes for 704 yards and five touchdowns in 2021 and 36 passes for 548 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.

His career totals were 182 receptions for 2,445 yards (13.4 average) and 16 scores. He jumped on teams’ radars with an excellent showing at the College Gridiron Showcase.

At pro day, he measured 6-0 1/4 and 193 pounds with a 4.38 in the 40 and a 38-inch vertical. After going undrafted, he’s spent time with the Colts and Steelers.

My whole career has been a series of struggles that I’ve constantly overcome,” he told Draft Diamonds. “I’m going into my seventh year (of college football), and a lot of people would have given up by now. I was once told that I would never play football, but I never complained. I just kept my head down and never stopped working. …

“Every time I have been faced with adversity I have prevailed. I’m ready for whatever other obstacles may come my way.”
