Matthew Judon 'Recruiting' Rookie to Patriots Defense
One week he's defending the culture of his organization and his head coach. The next he's recruiting new talent to the roster.
At this point, the New England Patriots should put Matthew Judon on the front-office payroll.
When former player Asante Samuel last week attacked Bill Belichick, Judon spoke up. And now this week he's back on social media attempting to lure Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon to Foxboro. (Even though, we're pretty sure Judon knows the college star would have to be drafted, and not just voluntarily sign as a free agent.)
On Thursday's Good Morning Football on NFL Network, former Patriot-turned-host Jason McCourty highlighted Witherspoon. He is widely regarded as the first cornerback to be selected, so there's only a remote chance he'll be on the board when New England drafts at No. 14 overall.
Witherspoon held quarterbacks to a 25 passer rating last season, while also snagging three interceptions with 14 pass break-ups. He was a complete lockdown corner and didn’t yield a single receiving touchdown in his final season with the Fighting Illini.
The Patriots this offseason re-signed Jonathan Jones and Jalen Mills, and they sport Jack and Marcus Jones in the secondary. But that this point Judon seemingly wants every skilled player to join his team's Top 10 defense, while commanding critics to take a seat.
