Rams vs. Broncos GAMEDAY Preview: Will Sean McVay Play Starters?

Who will Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay play with cutdown day right around the corner?
In this story:

The Los Angeles Rams (0-2) will visit the Denver Broncos (0-2) tonight. The game precedes perhaps the grimmest day on the football calendar: cutdown day. Each 90-man training camp roster will be cut to 53 on Tuesday, creating a roster-churning frenzy and putting countless jobs in jeopardy.

Los Angeles won’t play stars like receiver Cooper Kupp or defensive lineman Aaron Donald, but the roster’s youth and inexperience has forced Rams head coach Sean McVay's hand; he generally opts to rest his starters for the exhibitions.

However, fans can expect a large portion of Saturday’s game to display the talents of those on the roster bubble.

“You want to just continue to see guys represent themselves well,” McVay said after a joint practice with Denver on Thursday. “Continue to try the best they can to be able to earn a spot on our team.

“And if not, then I think it is important for them to be able to showcase their skill sets do well so that when other teams look on that film, if it’s not for us, that they get an opportunity to be able to continue on their playing career.”

On the other sideline, Broncos head coach Sean Payton made it clear he doesn’t intend to see much from his starters.

“We’ll see,” said Payton. “We certainly won’t play them—if we do—more than a series.”

This preseason finale should look less like a dress rehearsal and more like a public tryout for the inevitable wave of free agents.
