Rams Ex Darrell Henderson Works Out For AFC Team

Free-agent running back Darrell Henderson, formerly of the Los Angeles Rams, worked out with the New England Patriots Wednesday.

Former Los Angeles Rams running back Darrell Henderson remains a free agent as training camp approaches, but he may be close to finding a new home.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Henderson worked out with the New England Patriots on Wednesday.

A 2019 third-round pick out of Memphis, Henderson spent more than three seasons with the Rams. After a quiet rookie campaign, he became a key part of L.A.'s backfield with over 600 yards and five touchdowns in 2020 and 2021. He was also a decent receiving threat out of the backfield with over 300 yards and four touchdowns receiving in that time.

Henderson entered the 2022 season as the starting running back, but like L.A.'s season as a whole, it didn't go as planned. He had just one game with over 50 rushing yards, and his yards per carry dipped to barely over four. After a game against the New Orleans Saints in which he had just two carries for nine yards, the Rams waived Henderson on Nov. 22.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed Henderson on waivers the next day, but he never played a game for them before being waived again on Dec. 9.

Henderson has worked out with other teams this offseason, namely the Cleveland Browns in May and the Kansas City Chiefs in June, but has yet to land a deal

Additionally, Henderson wasn't the only running back the Patriots hosted on Wednesday. They also worked out free agent back Leonard Fournette, formerly with the Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Rhamondre Stevenson already the feature back in New England, the Patriots are looking for some extra depth in the backfield.

In a day where even star running backs are struggling to get paid, players like Henderson are in an especially difficult spot. If all goes well, though, he could be playing in Foxborough soon.
