Rams Hiring Chase Blackburn as Special Teams Coordinator
After the Los Angeles Rams put together a disappointing 5-12 season sweeping changes were made by Sean McVay to his coaching staff. Among those that were let go was special teams coach Joe DeCamillis.
Now, though, the Rams are set to hire Decamillis' replacement.
On Tuesday it was reported that they will be hiring Chase Blackburn as their new special teams coordinator.
Blackburn was an undrafted rookie signed by the New York Giants out of Akron, and is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He was the special teams' captain during their 2010 Super Bowl run, serving as a captain alongside Eli Manning and Justin Tuck.
As a coach, Blackburn was the Carolina Panthers’ special teams coordinator from 2018-2021. He was fired following the 2021 season, however, he then joined the Tennessee Titans coaching staff as their assistant special teams coach.
With the hire the Rams hope that Blackburn can come in and turn around a special teams unit that struggled at times. If he can do that, it will go a long way toward helping the Rams rebound from 2022 and get back into Super Bowl contender status.
