'F*** Privacy,' But ...' Why'd Rams' Matthew Stafford Say 'No' to Netflix 'Quarterback'?

Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, revealed that her husband declined the opportunity to appear on the hit Netflix series "Quarterback"

As starting quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford already has a massive spotlight on him.

With that much attention already, it's completely understandable if he and his family wouldn't want any more unnecessary focus on them. According to his wife Kelly Stafford on her podcast "The Morning After With Kelly Stafford," the Rams star declined the opportunity to appear on the hit Netflix show "Quarterback," when approached last year.

“They approached Matthew last year for this show, he turned it down," Kelly Stafford said on her podcast, via Turf Show Times. "We’ve said no to quite a few approaches on reality TV shows. You guys know how private my husband is. You know how I’m not private, f***, I have a podcast explaining my entire life. ...

"Not my cup of tea because I don’t want to expose my girls in that way. But Quarterback is different. He didn’t do it for a couple reasons. He’s private, he also didn’t want to put his teammates through it. ... He’s like ‘I don’t want my teammates to deal with cameras in the locker room. Here, there, whatever.’ Which I respect. I love that he thinks of those things."

Kelly Stafford - who this week expressed angry about false report of her having cancer - added that her husband's injury, which caused him to miss nearly half the season, also played a role in him declining an appearance on the show. Notably, she also hinted that Matthew Stafford may reconsider if approached again in the future.

Released earlier this month "Quarterback" has become a major hit for Netflix. The show follows signal-callers Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs), Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings) and Marcus Mariota (then with the Atlanta Falcons) throughout the 2022 season, both on and off the field. The show has received strong reviews, and executive producer Peyton Manning recently revealed that a second season has been greenlit by Netflix.

Maybe Matthew Stafford has a change of heart in the future, but 2022 was clearly, for the Staffords, not the right time for him to appear on the new hit show.
