Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford Preparing For Likely Rain Game vs. Baltimore Ravens
Matthew Stafford doesn't have a ton of experience playing in poor conditions, as between the Detroit Lions' Ford Field and the Los Angeles Rams' SoFi Stadium, he's always called an indoor venue home.
He'll certainly get a taste of those conditions in Sunday's road game against the Baltimore Ravens, though. Accuweather's forecast calls for a 94 percent chance of rain on Sunday, with a downpour expected for nearly the entire game.
Rest assured for Rams fans, Stafford is making sure that he's adequately prepared for the elements by using a wet ball in practice.
"Like you can squirt the ball with water and then inevitably in a game you're going to get some snaps where you're like, ‘Oh, the ball is pretty dry, I can throw it here,’ and other times you're going to get it and you're like, ‘I can't,’ you know?" Stafford told reporters Wednesday. "You just kind of got to go play each play as its own and you can't expect for it to be perfect every single time but you do get a good grip on it every once in a while and try to put it in a good spot. And if not, then figure out a way to get around it."
Obviously, weather conditions don't affect just one team in a game. The Ravens are also bracing for the elements, and coach John Harbaugh explained how they affect his game plan.
'Greatest Ever!' John Harbaugh Details Challenge of Aaron Donald, Rams Defense
"Winds are a big factor in the passing game and the kicking game," Harbaugh told reporters. "So, we have to take that into account. Just catching it, whether it's catching a punt [or] a kickoff or catching a pass. Ball handling is going to be a big part of it. We're a ball handling offense, so we have to handle the ball in wet weather."
With the Ravens being such a run-heavy team, actually boasting the lowest percentage of passing plays in the league, it would seem that rainy conditions would affect them less than the more balanced Rams. If the Rams want to extend their three-game winning streak and keep pace in the crowded NFC wild card race, they'll have to overcome both the Ravens and a potential downpour.
