Los Angeles Rams' Nick Caley 'Well-Positioned' to Rejoin Patriots Coaching Staff?

The Los Angeles Rams could have a third coaching vacancy as current tight ends coach Nick Caley is a serious candidate for the New England Patriots offensive coordinating role.

The Sean McVay coaching tree continues to grow with each passing offseason, with the latest branch being now former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator and current Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris

However, it is unlikely that Morris will be the last coach to leave the Rams staff this offseason, as he's already poached another former fellow assistant, Zac Robinson, to move with him to become his offensive coordinator. Additionally, current Rams tight end coach Nick Caley could become the next assistant who departs L.A. for a promotion.

Per a report from ESPN's Mike Reiss, Caley, the one-time New England Patriots assistant, could find himself back in Foxboro as he is in contention to become new coach Jerod Mayo's offensive coordinator.

"[Caley] is viewed by some close to the process as well-positioned to ultimately lead the offense," Reiss writes about Caley.

Caley has already interviewed once with the Patriots so far this offseason and is reportedly set for a second, thus further confirming Reiss's report that he is a frontrunner to land the job.

Before joining McVay's staff in 2023, the 41-year-old spent eight seasons in Foxboro working under then-legendary coach Bill Belichick. After starting in 2015 as an offensive assistant in New England, Caley worked his way up the ladder, coaching tight ends from 2017 to 2022.

This isn't the first time that the current Rams assistant has found himself in the running for the Patriots offensive coordinator role, as he even interviewed for it following the 2021 season as Josh McDaniels took the Las Vegas Raiders coaching job.

Obviously, that search for a new coordinator ended with Belichick infamously naming two previous non-offensive coordinators, Matt Patricia and Joe Judge, as his de facto play-callers.

Yet, with Mayo now at the helm in New England, it could be the second time, the charm for Caley.
