'Bright Spot!' Rams Sean McVay 'Feels Great' About Brycen Hopkins
Los Angeles Rams tight end Brycen Hopkins has a chance to make a name for himself this summer. The noise out of camp suggests he has not taken the opportunity for granted.
The fourth-year veteran has been aided by injuries to fellow tight ends Hunter Long and Davis Allen. Still, his performance has stood out to the coaching staff.
“I feel great about Brycen Hopkins,” head coach Sean McVay said. “I think he’s had an excellent camp. If you said, ‘What’s one of the bright spots of training camp?’ Brycen Hopkins is one of the guys that comes to mind right away for me.”
As things stand, Hopkins seems poised to sit right below starter Tyler Higbee on the depth chart. The praise comes at a critical juncture in Hopkins’ career. He has struggled to make a sizable impact and entered camp on the roster bubble.
Over his first two seasons, he reported as a healthy scratch in all but 10 games. Last year, he produced a mere seven catches for 109 yards. He is yet to find the endzone as a professional.
It is possible an uptick in 12 personnel will provide Hopkins with more opportunities to make a difference. Los Angeles has been billed as a team looking to get more diverse with its playcalling in 2023. A strong preseason could force McVay’s hand.
“I think he’s done an excellent job,” McVay said.
Hopkins will have a chance to showcase his improvements on Saturday when the Rams host the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.
