Although the Los Angeles Rams kept their interest in Stetson Bennett under wraps before the 2023 NFL draft, their decision to select him in the fourth round was a logical one, considering his natural compatibility.

Bennett possesses the qualities that Rams head coach Sean McVay seeks in a quarterback, including mobility, a quick release, and the ability to make plays when faced with a collapsing pocket.

Furthermore, Bennett's college head coach, Kirby Smart, supports the notion that the Rams are an ideal destination for him. In an interview with "The Next Round," Smart provided insights into why he believes the Rams are the best fit for Bennett's skill set.

"He's talented. He's a great athlete. He fits their scheme," Smart said. "I think Sean (McVay) liked him playing in (Todd) Monken's system. There are a lot of similarities there. He loves Stafford, and he's got a chance to learn under one of the best. I don't think you could find a better fit for him."

While Smart did not have a direct conversation with McVay regarding Bennett, he did engage in discussions with several individuals from the Rams organization regarding the former Georgia quarterback.

"Sean actually didn't call me. I talked to several guys in their organization, but not Sean," Smart clarified.

Bennett's notable contributions played a crucial role in Georgia's success, winning two national titles in 2022 and 2023. His impressive performances showcased his talent and propelled him to become a mid-late-round prospect for the 2023 NFL draft. As Bennett starts his professional career, he will begin as a backup to Matthew Stafford.

Nevertheless, given Stafford's absence of eight games last season and his age of 35, Bennett very well could be asked to contribute at some point in his rookie campaign.
