Ravens BREAKING: Injured Mark Andrews Moves to Active Roster vs. Chiefs in AFC Championship
The Baltimore Ravens looked like they would have All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews return from his ankle injury in the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans.
But the star tight end didn't quite do enough to warrant a place on the field. Now, with another week of rehab and practice, will we see Andrews as a crucial part of Todd Monken's offense?
Head coach John Harbaugh gave nothing away on Thursday …
“Mark practiced, he went through the whole practice and we'll just kind of see on all those things how they go and if guys are ready to go,” Harbaugh said.
But on Friday? The move is made. Andrews is activated to the 53.
The Ravens' offense hasn't missed Andrews as since he went down with that ankle injury, second-year tight end Isaiah Likely has stepped up and filled the void.
Likely finished fourth for yards among his fellow Ravens with 411 and also caught five touchdowns as well, four of which have come in his last three games.
So the offense has managed to function well in Andrews' absence, and the thought of pairing him with Likely creates a tantalizing prospect.
If Andrews can go, then Lamar Jackson will have yet another weapon to use as he tries to take down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. But if the All-Pro doesn't suit up, then going forward with Likely, who has over 30 yards receiving in seven straight games, isn't a bad second option.
Ravens vs. Chiefs: Mark Andrews, Marlon Humphrey, Isiah Pacheco Injury Updates
Andrews still has a couple of days to show he is fully recovered from his ankle injury and we imagine that Harbaugh and the coaching staff won't take any risks with him.
It has been a long wait to see Andrews in the Ravens lineup, and maybe, just maybe, come Sunday, his return could coincide with Baltimore making the Super Bowl by sending Mahomes and the Chiefs home.
