Ravens' DL Washington 'Happy To Be Home!' After Contract Extension

"I don't have to go anywhere different and I don't have to learn a new scheme," Baltimore Ravens DL Broderick Washington said. "I know everything already and I'm comfortable. I'm just excited for the opportunity to grow each and every year."

The Baltimore Ravens signed defensive lineman Broderick Washington to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday and the 26-year-old could not wipe the smile off his face while addressing the media after the announcement of his new deal was made official.

Washington expressed what he felt as he signed his extension worth up to $17.5 million to stay home. "I was very excited," Washington told reporters. "I'm just blessed to even be in this position. I'm glad my mom wasn't here, I would've cried... I'm filled with emotion, and I'm happy to be able to be home for the next three years."

Washington is content that he does not have to move anywhere and he is also glad that will not be required to learn a new scheme. "I don't have to go anywhere different and I don't have to learn a new scheme," Washington said. "I know everything already and I'm comfortable. I'm just excited for the opportunity to grow each and every year."

Washington mentioned that Baltimore coach Jon Harbaugh alluded to a contract extension during OTAs in May, but did not want to let the idea of a new deal get into his head as he knows he is still improving as a player.

"Coach [Harbaugh] kind of mentioned [my contract extension] during OTAs," Washington said. "I didn't want to let it get to my head because, at the end of the day, I'm still trying to get better."

Washington is excited to play his best football in Baltimore. "I've barely scratched the surface of what I could be," Washington said. "I just look forward to the opportunity to be able to do that here."

A fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Washington has recorded 67 total tackles including four for loss, and two sacks in three seasons with the Ravens.
