Ravens 'Chance' to Trade Down in NFL Draft - GM Eric DeCosta
The Baltimore Ravens will enter the NFL Draft with just five picks at their disposal as the franchise figures out which way to go in the early rounds.
But do the Ravens want more draft capital? According to general manager Eric DeCosta, they do. But how would the team go about that? Currently slated to start the draft with the No. 22 pick, DeCosta stated that the franchise could trade down in an attempt to secure more draft picks.
"I think the chances for us to be able to do it (trade down) are pretty decent," DeCosta said during this week's pre-draft press conference. "Sometimes, you get lucky in that there's a guy that you might really want, you make the tough decision to trade back and you can still get him.''
Should Baltimore trade down and acquire an extra pick, the team could find value in the second and third rounds.
But...
In the first round, the Ravens could have their pick of wide receivers, which the offense desperately needs. Does the franchise want to give that up?
It sounds like it, but adding draft capital is something every team likes to do, and in Baltimore's case, with just five picks, its selection pool is rather small, meaning the need to hit on its draft picks is paramount.
With the Lamar Jackson situation still hanging over the franchise like a dark cloud, Baltimore has a host of decisions to make at the draft, with one being whether or not to part ways with its first-round pick.
"It happens more than you think,'' DeCosta said of the successful trade-down. "We have to look at the capital that we can get by trading back, and we'll make the best decision that we can."
