Baltimore Ravens Coach Mike Macdonald On Kyle Hamilton - 'It's What We Expect'
Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton looked like the best player in the game during their 22-19 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald spoke about Hamilton and what he expects from the young safety.
"He had a great game and was able to get the ball off the quarterback the one time, that probably could have changed the game there at the end of the half," Macdonald said. "But it's what we expect from Kyle. He's a guy that we're gonna move around and we expect to influence the game from multiple positions and the expectation is to do it on a weekly basis. He's that type of player. Moving forward, just keep being him. Don't reach for plays, let the plays come to you. Play with the effort that he's playing with just like the rest of the defense. Keep attacking the ball so we can take it away and give it back to our offense."
Hamilton had nine tackles, 3.0 sacks, two tackles for loss, one pass defended and three quarterback hits against the Colts, far and away the strongest performance on the team from either side of the ball.
His three sacks tied the NFL record for most sacks in a game by a defensive back and on three different occasions he just missed the record-breaker.
The Ravens drafted Hamilton out of Notre Dame with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The scouting report on him was that he had the potential to be a swiss-army knife player, one that could be moved around the field to fill multiple positions.
In his rookie season, he only started in four out of the 16 games he played in, tallying 62 tackles, 2.0 sacks and four tackles for loss. This could be the start of a breakout for Hamilton as he is finally showing flashes of the player Baltimore drafted him to be.
The Ravens will head on the road this week to try and bounce back from their loss, taking on the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. ET.
