'Teams Called Us' About Receiver Trades Ravens GM DeCosta Reveals
When the Baltimore Ravens take the field on Sunday, September 10, to face the Houston Texans in their regular season opener, they will do with potentially the best receiving corps they've had since drafting franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson back in 2018.
How much have the Ravens improved from a play-making perspective? Well, despite not even playing a regular season game just yet, general manager Eric DeCosta revealed in a recent interview he has been receiving calls from other teams who want to trade for a weapon.
"This is the first year, I will say this, it's the first year where other teams have called us looking for receivers," DeCosta said about other teams trying to make a trade with the Ravens. "I actually thought it was a joke at first. So, that's kind of cool."
After years of a lack of playmakers, the Ravens' front office made it their mission to get more weapons on the outside after a season where the passing game was among the worst in the league, as they ranked No. 28 in passing yards per game and 22nd in yards per pass.
The reinforcements on the outside included free-agent signings Nelson Agholor and Odell Beckham Jr., along with using their first-round NFL Draft pick on Boston College's Zay Flowers.
Add in the hiring of two-time national champion offensive coordinator Todd Monken, formerly of the Georgia Bulldogs, who also has prior experience in the NFL as a play-caller, and the Ravens look to have made big strides in improving their offense.
The first chance to see the new offense with its offseason additions will come on Sunday when the Ravens play host to the Texans inside M&T Bank Stadium, where kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (EST).
