Ravens Lack Of Free Agent Activity Is Alarming

The Baltimore Ravens are reportedly one of just two teams who have yet to acquire a player from another team in the first wave of free agency.
In this story:

The NFL free agency period is underway and teams have been able to legally negotiate with players and agents since March 13.

But just because teams are able to negotiate doesn't mean they will. And it doesn't mean they'll sign anyone. Take the Baltimore Ravens, as their inactivity has hit a new low.

Baltimore is reportedly one of just two teams who have yet to acquire a player from another team. The other team is Jacksonville.

Since the beginning of the league new year, which started on March 15, the Ravens have officially re-signed running back Justice Hill, safety Geno Stone and long snapper Nick Moore, lost guard Ben Powers and tight end Josh Oliver, traded safety Chuck Clark, cut defensive end Calais Campbell and tagged quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Some simple math there tells us the team has lost more than it has added.

For a team that has so many holes to fill, adding more holes makes this a dubious start to 2023. The problem is the quarterback position. With general manager Eric DeCosta still attempting to negotiate a new deal with Jackson, and not knowing what that contract will look like, it's difficult to add much not knowing how much money will be available.

Although it was probably the right move to place the non-exclusive tag on Jackson, it's somewhat handcuffed the Ravens.

Hopefully, when the next wave of free agency hits and contracts are more affordable, the Ravens will be more active.
