Ravens Lamar Jackson Ready For 'Heavyweight Fight' Against Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs
The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson have taken all before them this season, but one team stands in their way of making it to the Super Bowl - the Kansas City Chiefs.
With Patrick Mahomes playing in his sixth straight AFC Championship game as a starter, and Lamar his first, it will pit two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL against each other.
But does Jackson like facing Mahomes, a player who he has only beaten once in four attempts (1-3 record vs. Mahomes)
"I don't like competing against him at all,” Jackson said with a smile. “But yeah I mean he's a great quarterback, definitely Hall of Famer is not even it's a no-brainer he's definitely a Hall of Famer. But it's just I believe it's just two greats up and coming greats just going toe to toe you know like a heavyweight fight, heavyweight match up that's just what I see.”
While the Ravens offense has been in good form, helping the team win 11 of their last 13 including the regular season and playoffs, it could be getting a serious boost of talent on Sunday.
All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews was close to returning last week against the Houston Texans but didn't quite tick all the boxes and as such, was held back.
Now, with another week of practice under his belt, the thought is that Baltimore will unleash Andrews against the Chiefs.
As for what having Andrews back would mean for this Ravens offense?
“Oh it mean a lot, that's my bread and butter, big bro," Jackson said. "But man it'll definitely mean a lot. We already got guys who stepped up like [Isaiah] Likely, OB [Beckham Jr.] Nelly [Agholor] got Charlie [Kolar] got all these guys that stepped up. But with Mark and the type of guy he is, the type of caliber player he is, and what he brings to the table for us, it'll definitely mean a lot for us."
Given what it takes to slay Mahomes in the postseason, the Ravens know that having Andrews will increase their chances of putting up a big enough score to advance to the Super Bowl.
In Todd Monken's first season as offensive coordinator, Baltimore has been extremely potent, and while that was missing in the first half against the Texans, after halftime, the Ravens put the foot down.
Patrick Mahomes Predicts 'First Of Many' Big Games vs. Lamar Jackson
Now, coming up against a Chiefs team who have the experience and the firepower on both sides of the ball to cause trouble, in this heavyweight fight, Baltimore will not want to be the one laying on the canvas struggling to make the ten count.
It's championship football, so be prepared for this one to go the distance, and the Ravens will be hoping that it's their hand being raised in victory after a four-quarter slug fest.
