Baltimore Ravens Preparing For 'Freak Of Nature' in Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett
It's no secret how good the Cleveland Browns defense is. You also don't have to look far to find the leader of that unit.
Browns (5-3) defensive end Myles Garrett has been the best defensive player on one of the best defenses in football. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson noted how good Garrett is and how it isn't hard to see his impact on a game the Browns defense and how they play.
"No. 1, Myles Garrett – the leader of that defense, I believe, and those guys just fly around," Jackson said. "I believe those guys are headhunters. The secondary, linebackers and, like you said, defensive line, they're just flying around and trying to attack with aggression. That's pretty much what stands out to me."
The Defensive Player of the Year candidate is tied for second in the league with 9.5 sacks. Garrett also had 18 quarterback hits, 22 pressures, eight tackles for loss and four forced fumbles this season.
As a team, Cleveland's defense has allowed the fewest yards per game (234.8), third in points allowed per game (17.4) and seventh in sacks (27).
Baltimore (7-2) center Tyler Linderbaum also heaped praise upon Garrett, noting the stress he puts on an offensive line on every play.
"He's definitely a guy that you have to know where he's at," Linderbaum said. "One of the best D-ends in the league [and] one of the best defenders in the league. The tape speaks for itself. He's a guy that has all the tools. Just his size, strength and speed - it definitely makes it challenging. It's someone you definitely have to know who and where he's at. That starts with the game plan. That starts with this week and just trusting our fundamentals and technique to get the job done."
In their previous meeting, in which the Ravens won 28-3 on Oct. 1 at Cleveland Browns Stadium, Garrett had one sack, one quarterback hit and three tackles for loss. Garrett's play this season has even inspired the opposition like Ravens defensive end Odafe Oweh to take bits and pieces from his game.
"A freak of nature in his own right," Oweh said of Garrett. "There are definitely certain things I'll take from his game, but I'm a different type of person and a different type of rusher, so you've got to give and take."
Baltimore will look to extend its win streak to five when it hosts the Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium.
