Baltimore Among Best In Quarterback Stability Rankings
No quarterback? Big problems. The NFL is a quarterback-driven league and it's no secret that the best teams tend to be led by the best quarterbacks.
*Cough* Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes *Cough*
It's even better for a franchise to have long-term stability under center. The Baltimore Ravens are tied as the NFL's second-best team in quarterback turnover rankings over the last decade, per CBS Sports.
The Ravens have had only three starting quarterbacks since the start of the 2013 season, which is tied for the second-lowest among NFL teams. To qualify for this list a quarterback had to start at least four games in a season for a. Joe Flacco, Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley are the starting three.
Heading into his sixth season at age 26, Jackson has arguably the best talent around him yet. Baltimore signed veteran wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor in free agency and drafted receiver Zay Flowers in the first round of this year's NFL Draft. With first-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken calling the plays, Jackson has joked that he may throw for 6,000 yards.
More than two years in the making, Jackson and Baltimore agreed on a five-year, $260 million contract this spring. Jackson's best season to date came in 2019 when he was the unanimous MVP and the Ravens finished with the best record in franchise history at 14-2.
Leading the league in quarterback stability is the Chiefs with only two starting quarterbacks in 10 seasons with Mahomes and Alex Smith. The reigning Super Bowl Champions Chiefs are favorites to again win the Lombardi Trophy with Mahomes on a lucrative 10-year deal.
Other teams with the most stable rankings have been buoyed by longtime franchise quarterbacks, like Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Eli Manning (Giants), Derek Carr (Raiders) and Philip Rivers (Chargers).
All in all, Baltimore hopes to continue its security and dependability at quarterback with Jackson.
