Nelson Agholor 'Makes Case' For Bigger Role In Ravens Offense

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Nelson Agholor caught the attention of coach John Harbaugh, who called his spring production, "on point."

Every NFL season, new players emerge as strong contributors and stars to make a name for themselves. Sometimes, that player comes seemingly out of nowhere... But usually, offseason workouts are a good indicator of how a player is developing ... at least in the eyes of the coaching staff and teammates.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Nelson Agholor caught the attention of coach John Harbaugh, who called his spring production, "on point."

"[Agholor] is a talented guy," Harbaugh said. "A former first-round pick; he looks it ... rangy, big catch radius."

Agholor's career-best season came in 2020 with the Las Vegas Raiders, finishing with 896 yards and eight touchdowns. In his last two seasons with the New England Patriots, Agholor totaled 835 yards from 68 receptions and five touchdowns.

A first-round draft pick in 2015, his speed and acrobatics could a major weapon in the new-look Ravens' offense this year. Agholor and quarterback Lamar Jackson's chemistry was strong during offseason workouts; highlight by several deep passes and back-shoulder throws.

ESPN picked Agholor as a surprising player this spring:

"Agholor, a first-rounder in 2015, is on his fourth team in five years, but he has made a strong impression in his first offseason with the Ravens. "Nelly" -- as Lamar Jackson calls him -- has repeatedly stood out, whether it's a long touchdown grab or a nifty grab on a back-shoulder throw. Agholor is the clear-cut No. 4 wide receiver in Baltimore, but he's making a case for having a bigger role in the passing game."

Optimism is high that Baltimore's passing game improve dramatically after ranking last in the NFL in receiving yards by wide receivers in three of the past four seasons (2019, 2020 and 2022).

The Ravens are in win-now mode after finishing Jackson's new contract and adding receiver Odell Beckham Jr. With first-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken calling the plays, expectations are high with the eighth-best odds to win the Super Bowl.

Jackson has joked that he may throw for 6,000 yards with Monken calling the plays. Baltimore already has depth at the receiver position with Beckham Jr, Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. However, Agholor's strong start with the team is making a case for playing time.
