'Debate Can Be Put To Rest!' Ravens' Marlon Humphrey Weighs in on Belichick's Legacy

After failing to land a head coaching job this cycle, NFL legend Bill Belichick has now taken public criticism from Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphries.

Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick remains unsigned, and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has taken to social media to weigh in on his legacy.

“The ‘greatest coach of All time’ did not get hired out of 6 Head Coaching jobs open. I think that debate can be put to rest now,” Humphrey tweeted.

In recent years, many fans have argued regarding Belichick's legacy. Was he or his quarterback, Tom Brady, more deserving of the credit for the New England Patriots dynasty?

After Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won a ring in his first season with the franchise, though, the conversation seemed to change. Rather than arguing about who deserved more credit, the conversation changed, with some people being convinced that Brady had carried him to success all along.

Belichick's record over the years in games coached without Brady is tough to defend. He's just 47-57 in games without the man many consider the greatest player of all time.

Now that Belichick got rejected on the open market by eight NFL teams with head coaching vacancies, critics of Belichick, such as Humphrey, are louder than ever, feeling as though their opinion has been validated in thinking that he's been overrated.

However, considering that he has six Super Bowl wins as a head coach and had two wins as a defensive coordinator before Brady came into the league, it seems as though recency bias may be skewing people, such as Humphrey's perspective on Belichick’s coaching legacy.

Perhaps if Belichick is willing to lighten his workload by simply coaching again rather than also wearing the hat of being a franchise's general manager and having to focus on personnel decisions all the time, there's a chance he could redeem his legacy as a defensive guru and quiet his skeptics, or perhaps Humphrey is right and he was overrated all along.
