Ravens Todd Monken to Make Zay Flowers 'A Complete Player!'

Baltimore Ravens receiver Zay Flowers has been impressing during training camp, with Todd Monken making a concerted effort to develop Flowers into an unstoppable force.
In this story:

The Baltimore Ravens offense will look a little different than years prior as Todd Monken and his new system takes over.

With OTAs, minicamp, training camp, and now a preseason game to get used to the new scheme, Ravens players are loving what is being implemented on the field.

But how does Monken see his system right now?

“You have an idea of what you want it to look like,” Monken said. “It’s a work in progress, we’re always under construction as we still learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s a little bit harder when you don’t play a game. What it’ll look like in Week 12 or 13 to start [Week 1], it remains to be seen.”

With more of an emphasis on getting players vertical, as Odell Beckham Jr. stated that Monken wants to throw the ball, one player that many will have their eyes on is rookie Zay Flowers.

The star out of Boston College has been nearly unguardable in joint practices with the Washington Commanders as he looks completely at home as an NFL player.

But while Flowers has his strengths, Monken is using the offseason to build Flowers into a serious force on the football field.

“Usually, a player’s elite skillset shows up,” Monken said. “Physicality of a player will show up, the ability to stop on a dime and make people miss, you’ll see that show up. So now, with that, that is obviously a strength of his, now we’re working to refine some of the other things that will make him a complete player.”

Lamar Jackson has perhaps the best collection of talent on offense since entering the league, and with Monken handing the keys to Lamar to drive it as he sees fit, naturally, many are bullish on what the Ravens will look like this season.

While the offense is still a work in progress, Flowers doesn't seem to be, as he has hit the ground running. Many have their eyes pointed directly at Beckham Jr. this season, but in Flowers, Baltimore has a player who can scorch defenses with his blazing speed and crisp route running.

The Ravens' offense has the potential to be one of the hottest and most explosive in the NFL this season, and the message to opposing defenses facing Baltimore?
