Ravens To Meet With Free Agent LB Kyle Van Noy
The Baltimore Ravens missed out on signing or even visiting with free agent linebacker and edge rusher Dawuane Smoot, who was scheduled to visit with the Ravens early next week. Instead, Smoot re-signed with his old team, the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of that visit.
And just after signing free agent running back Melvin Gordon on Friday, the Ravens are apparently still in the market to add depth to the linebacker and pass rush positions as Baltimore is slated to host free agent Kyle Van Noy. The 32-year-old former Charger, Patriot, Dolphin, and Lion spent last season in Los Angeles and registered 46 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and had two fumble recoveries to help the Chargers land in the postseason.
Selected by Detroit in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Henderson, Nevada native moved on to the Patriots in 2016. Van Noy then spent one season in Miami before moving back to the Pats in 2021. In 128 career games, Van Noy has 470 tackles, 33.5 sacks, three interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries.
The Ravens need depth at linebacker on the strong side and sometimes played Tyus Bowser in the role. Still, Bowser was banged up last year, and it ended with Malik Harrison rushing off the edge frequently. Van Noy has played that role and can also can be considered an edge rusher at this point in his career, and should fit in quickly on the defense.
