OBJ Arrives in Baltimore: Ravens Getting 'Very Healthy' Odell Beckham Jr. - VIDEO
Odell Beckham Jr. has arrived.
OBJ is officially a member of the Baltimore Ravens after signing a one-year deal worth up to $18 million. There had reportedly been several suitors for Odell's signature, including the New York Jets, who had a meeting scheduled with the receiver, but Baltimore jumped ahead of the Jets and won the race.
The Beckham Jr. sweepstakes had dragged on for some time, with several red flags including the reported salary he demanded and the second ACL injury he suffered in the Super Bowl while playing for the Los Angeles Rams were believed to be the main cause for the hesitation.
But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show, stated that the receiver's troublesome knee now is no longer an issue.
"Had he stayed healthy in the Super Bowl, he probably is the Super Bowl MVP. He looked really good," Rapoport said. "His knee, his ACL, was not fully healthy at that point. Obviously he tore it, but it was not healthy before that. More than a year removed from ACL surgery, his knee is probably healthier than it has been in quite some time.
"[The Ravens] are going to be getting a very good and very healthy player."
Seeing as Baltimore is giving $15 million guaranteed, it would hope Odell is fully healthy. ... and Ravens fans now get their first look at OBJ as he arrives in town on Wednesday.
"We're ready to get to work, Flock Nation!'' OBJ said. "Much love. Let's get it!''
In an offense that struggled at times last season (just 20.6 points per game, ranked 19th in the NFL), adding Odell to its ranks will give the Baltimore offense some much-needed firepower, not to mention the returning Rashod Bateman as well.
So, there are going to be some nice pieces to work with for new Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. But the one key piece needed if for Lamar Jackson to return and contract talks have not progressed over the last few weeks and his non-exclusive franchise tag remains unsigned.
But there is some good news in the form of Beckham Jr. signing on.
And ...
For all of the talk surrounding Beckham Jr.'s knee after his ACL injury, it finally appears he is ready to get back to what he does best, terrorize opposing defenses.
