Saints Notes and Storylines

We already talked about some of the biggest storylines here when we had our first look earlier in the week. Here's a few more ahead of kickoff.

NO BIG HEALTH SURPRISES: From a health perspective, the Saints are in pretty good shape entering this opener. J.T. Gray (shoulder) is the only player we know won't be playing, as the team just moved Tre'Quan Smith (groin) to IR on Saturday. We're not sure about Kendre Miller (hamstring) making his rookie debut, as he's officially questionable. Kirk Merritt will be one to watch have some extra snaps in addition to Jamaal Williams and Taysom Hill as the featured runners. New Orleans called up Tony Jones Jr. and Ryan Connelly from the practice squad as standard elevations.

TEAM READY TO GO: This team has been ready to go for a while. In talking to players this week in the locker room, I haven't seen this much eagerness in years. It's been equally contagious for the rookies. New Orleans is ready to prove people that are doubters. Of course, this is a long game, so whatever happens in Week 1 won't dictate the season. New Orleans has won its past four season openers, while Tennessee has lost its past two.

AWESOME WAY TO START: If you didn't see, Mike Vrabel and Dennis Allen agreed to honor two legends of the game in Steven Gleason and Tim Shaw to bring further awareness to ALS. Allen said that Vrabel reached out after the schedule was finalized to put this together. The hope is for Sunday’s display of unity to bring support for those living with this disease and to encourage the continuing research needed in pursuit of a cure.
