Seahawks 'Getting A Dog' In Coach Ryan Grubb, Says Washington Star Rome Odunze
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is making the jump to the NFL level for the first time, which has understandably given some fans some pause.
If Grubb's college track record is anything to go by, though, then fans shouldn't have anything to worry about. The longtime offensive coordinator has had success everywhere he's gone, and most-recently turned the Washington Huskies' offense into one of the best in the country.
If anything, it's clear his former Washington players believe he will succeed at the professional level. Huskies star receiver Rome Odunze, who is very likely first-round pick in April's draft, sung his former offensive coordinator's praises on Thursday.
“Man, I will say y’all are getting a dog," Odunze said on Seattle Sports' Brock and Salk. And I know a lot of people will describe a player as that with that mindset and mentality, but to me that’s exactly what Grubb is, man. Grubb is the type of guy, he’s out-preparing everybody to the fullest, outpreparing everyone each week in his opponents, making sure that he’s leaving no detail behind.”
Odunze played a huge part in Grubb's offense at Washington, posting 1,640 receiving yards (the most in the country) and 13 touchdowns this season.
The Seahawks have a good set of weapons with Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at receiver, plus Kenneth Walker at running back. They just need the right coach to put the pieces together, and for Odunze, it's clear that Grubb is the man for the job.

“I really think that they’re gonna go over there and have a lot of success, especially with the tremendous receivers and quarterback as well that they have over there,” Odunze said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a pass-friendly, explosive, explosive gameplan, for sure, going in week to week. He’s a guy who is not going to let y’all down and he’s gonna work his ass off to make it happen.”
Odunze is expected to be a first-round pick when the 2024 NFL Draft begins in Detroit on Thursday, April 25.
