Seahawks Got Served 'Knockout Punch' vs. Rams Says D.K. Metcalf

The Seattle Seahawks' defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in the season opener took everyone by surprise, and D.K. Metcalf states that the team got knocked out by their division rival.

It wasn't the best of starts for the Seattle Seahawks to open the season as they got taught a lesson in a 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at home on Sunday/

After a good first half that saw Seattle leading, the second half was awful as the Rams piled on 23 unanswered points to leave a helpless Seahawks team humbled on the canvas.

For receiver D.K. Metcalf, the performance on Sunday hit the team like a punch out of nowhere after the impressive preseason it had been through.

“Everyone is pretty much disappointed with how we played and how we went out there and performed in Week 1 after the great practices that we had during training camp,” Metcalf said. “I think we are all just prepared to get to Detroit and just go out there, ready to play Sunday. It’s just a bad taste in our mouth right now because that’s not the team we wanted to be, that’s not who we aspire to be or what we want to put out there on film. Ready to play, just get out there and practice and move forward.”

After such a long offseason and the work that the offense put in under coordinator Shane Waldron, laying an egg in Week 1 wasn't ideal, but it also isn't the end of the world.

There are still 16 games to go in the Seahawks' season, with the Detroit Lions up next at Ford Field.

For Metcalf, if there was a silver lining to what happened on Sunday, it was that it happened now, and not later in the year.

“It’s easy to get back to work, just happy it happened Week 1,” Metcalf said. “That it's not lingering around like Week 8 or Week 10, where we really have to have a inter check of who we want to be. We got that knockout punch early, but we going to get back up and keep fighting.”

While this particular fight lasts another 16 rounds, Seattle gets the chance to make amends for what was a poor outing by anyone's standards.

For the Lions, beware a Seattle team chomping at the bit to prove that Week 1 was a flash in the pan.

They want retribution, and they will be hellbent on getting it.
