Can Seahawks Geno Smith 'Live Up' to Pro Bowl Expectations?
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is coming off his best season as an NFL starter. After taking over from Russell Wilson, not much was expected of Smith or the Seahawks, but a good season that yielded a playoff appearance and a Pro Bowl nod for Smith was a great reward.
Now, as the Seahawks enter training camp looking to build on what was accomplished last season, there are questions hanging over Smith and if he can remain at a consistently high level.
CBS Sports writes that it might be tough for Smith to replicate his form from last season.
"Quarterback Geno Smith had a breakout year in 2022 at 32 years old," CBS Sports writes. "He played a full season, something he has not done since 2013. Smith went 9-8 and helped lead the team to a playoff spot. He finished the year with a 69.8 completion percentage, 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, earning him a three-year extension with the team.
"Living up to last season will not be easy for Smith. However, the team has shown confidence in Smith since the beginning, and now that he has shown what he is capable of, we could see an even sharper Smith this season."
There have been some nice additions to the Seattle offense with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Zach Charbonnet coming in. We then can look at the natural progression of the roster. Kenneth Walker, who is coming off an impressive rookie campaign, is another name to watch.
Many are sleeping on what Seattle could do this season. But with the NFC at its weakest in recent memory, one could argue that the Seahawks as the fourth-best team in the conference.
Others have the Seahawks not only pushing the San Francisco 49ers for the division but have them winning it.
Of course, this is predicated on Smith maintaining his high standards of a year ago. If he can, or at least get close, then the Seahawks are genuine NFC contenders this season.
