Seahawks Geno Smith Plays Like a 'Young Guy,' Says Ex QB
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is coming off the best season of his career. He received his first Pro Bowl nod after leading his team to the postseason, shocking the league in the process.
Not many expected Geno to produce in the way he did, but that's now the expectation moving forward. With Smith's improvement as a quarterback on show last season - which saw him set several Seahawks single-season franchise passing records - former NFL quarterback David Carr is excited to see what he can do this time around.
“I like the pass game, I like that Geno Smith’s decision-making has gotten so much better,” Carr said on NFL Total Access. “When you watch him play, he plays like a seasoned vet that still has the raw ability of the young guy. I’m looking forward to watching him play even more consistent football this year."
Last offseason, Smith was fighting for the starting role and splitting first-team reps. It's obviously his team now.
With a full spring and summer to get as many reps in offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's offense as possible, it is easy to see why many have the Seahawks as a dark horse in NFC.
Much of Seattle's potential success this season rests on Smith being able to replicate his efforts. Of course, his stat line of 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions will be hard to duplicate. But if Smith can get near that level of production again, then Carr thinks Seattle will be in business come playoff time.
"Man, if he can get anywhere near what he did last year, and they add a couple of pieces and get better on defense, they’ll be right there," Carr said.
Seattle has added two rookie weapons on offense in receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back Zach Charbonnet, helping the Seahawks' cause with Smith leading the way.
Can he produce at a consistently high level as he did last season? For many, Seattle's playoff chances rest on him being able to do just that.
