Seattle Seahawks' Jamal Adams Makes Humorous Devon Witherspoon Comparison
The Seattle Seahawks seem to have struck gold with their selection of cornerback Devon Witherspoon in April.
After missing the season-opener with injury, Witherspoon has played every snap in the next five games and looked extremely impressive while doing so. In those games, Witherspoon has 31 combined tackles, eight passes defended and an interception, which he returned 97 yards for a touchdown, and he's been terrific in coverage too.
How good has Witherspoon been? According to PFF, the star rookie is the highest-rated cornerback in the league with an exceptional 88.5 overall grade.
Witherspoon has impressed no one more than his teammates, who have consistently sung his praises this season. After Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals, safety Jamal Adams raved about Witherspoon's incredible start, adjusting to the professional level far quicker than Adams himself.
“I don’t know. You’ve got ask him on that. Because my rookie year, I was a**,” Adams told reporters. “He’s a phenomenal football player. Again, hats off to him. He’s very smart. He’s coachable. He listens. It’s a rare find, man. There’s a reason why he’s a top-five pick."
Adams, the No. 6 overall pick by the New York Jets in 2017, wasn't "a**" as a rookie, but definitely took some time to adjust to the NFL game. That adjustment came quickly enough, though, as he earned Pro Bowl recognition in each of the next three seasons.
However, the point still stands that Witherspoon has shined in a way that few rookies have. He's become a star in the Seahawks' already loaded secondary, and if he can keep up this level of play, much more NFL success awaits him.
