Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Gets Celebrity Reactions To QB Montage
The Seattle Seahawks have rolled out an assortment of quarterbacks throughout the preseason, from Geno Smith to Drew Lock to Holton Ahlers to ... Pete Carroll?
Obviously, the Seahawks coach hasn't actually suited up as the team's quarterback. However, the team posted a humorous montage of Carroll, the oldest coach in the league at 71, acting as the quarterback during practice. The Seahawks also edited the video to make it look like Carroll was connecting on deep balls to his receivers, often threading the needle over defenders.
The Seahawks' montage quickly went viral, only adding to the joke. As Carroll later shared, some prominent figures both inside and outside the NFL even decided to chime in.
The first reaction Carroll shared was that of world-famous rapper Snoop Dogg. A running theme in these reactions was criticism for Carroll "abusing" his secondary players, and Snoop Dogg's was no exception.
"The nerve of you to treat your players to such abuse," Snoop Dogg said. "You should be sanctioned, dawg. I thought you was better than that.
"On behalf of Death Row Records, you keep treating them players like that, abusing them, calling them out they name, I'm gonna show up and show out. ... Get your s— together, Pete. I don't want to do it but I will."
The second reaction was from none other than NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell also joined in on the running joke, which would be concerning for Carroll if it was serious.
"I keep hearing about the abuse that you're putting on your defensive secondary, shredding them every day with your passes and your running," Goodell said.
Finally, actor Will Ferrell got in on the fun as well, and he was perhaps the one most committed to the joke.
"These are young men, they're fighting for their livelihoods, for their jobs" Ferrell said. "And you make them look like little b—.
"You gotta back off. Because if you're going to make them look like little b—, I'm going to make you my b—. And you know I'll do it."
While being a quarterback in practice was plenty of fun for all involved, Carroll is obviously more focused on leading his team from the sidelines as the season approaches.
