Pete Carroll Reveals Seahawks' QB Plan In Preseason Finale
Throughout the Seattle Seahawks' two preseason wins, they've had a few different quarterbacks leading the way.
Starter Geno Smith hasn't seen much action, only playing two drives against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. Instead, Drew Lock has been the one in charge most of the time, playing the bulk of snaps across both games. Undrafted rookie Holton Ahlers has also played a good amount of snaps, including the entire second half against the Cowboys.
With the Seahawks concluding the preseason against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Saturday, all eyes will be on the quarterback position, as usual. After the Cowboys game, coach Pete Carroll revealed that Lock would see extended playing time once again.
"He's going to play a lot, yeah," Carroll told reporters. "I want to get as much football under his belt as we can, getting him ready."
It's not surprising for Lock to get the nod once again given how the preseason has gone, but it is reassuring for the Seahawks. Lock left the Cowboys game with an apparent knee injury in the second quarter, but thankfully, he avoided anything major and should return next week.
Lock getting so much playing time in the preseason isn't by accident. Carroll and the Seahawks view him as a starting-caliber quarterback, and want him to be ready to go when the situation calls for it.
"We think of him as a guy that can go out there and win a football game for us, running our whole entire offense," Carroll said. "There's nothing we do that he can't do, doesn't have a command of. That's a fortunate situation. I hope he comes out of this, this yank he got on his knee here, and can play this next week. We will have done everything we can to prepare him when the opportunity comes. We believe in him."
