'I Feel Great!' Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba on Recovery From Hamstring Injury
Even though he only appeared in three games during his final season at Ohio State, there is a lot to like about receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the Seattle Seahawks offense. After all, one look at what he did in 2021 will show you what you need to see.
In 13 games he recorded 95 receptions for 1,606 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, torching defenses. His best performance, though, came in Ohio State's Rose Bowl win over Utah which saw him haul in 15 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns.
Now, as he eases his way into life in the NFL while recovering from a hamstring injury, Smith-Njigba opened up about how it feels to be a Seahawk.
“Yeah, just taking it slow, taking it one step at a time, and getting ready for the next step," Smith-Njigba said. "They are just trying to control and make sure everything goes smoothly. They are doing a great job of doing that.
“I feel great, I feel 100 percent, ready to go, and I am happy that I am out here competing.”
Smith-Njigba has taken it slow so far during rookie minicamp, with the Seahawks not wanting to rush him back before he's ready. While he understands why he's being eased in, he is ready to get after it in Seattle.
“No, just being out here, it’s been a long time since coming out here and playing, so I didn’t know what to expect," Smith-Njigba said. "I’m happy I’m here, I’m happy I’m in a Seahawks uniform, and we are getting started.
There's no telling when the Seahawks will fully unleash Smith-Njigba this offseason, as they don't want to risk further injury. When they do, though, the rookie receiver will be ready to make a strong first impression in the NFL.
