Seahawks Ex Russell Wilson Jabbed by Broncos Coach Sean Payton for Golf Cart Crash
New Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton has his hands full with his team, including his QB, Russell Wilson. The performance needs to improve. The vibe needs to improve. The mood needs to improve.
And maybe Payton can accomplish some of that by lightening the mood, as he attempted to do this week in the Broncos' pre-NFL Draft press conference.
"I don’t want the players to feel like they’re pulling into the parking lot coming to football practice in April," Payton said, trying to make the point that offseason workouts are different from the regular-season grind. "No meetings, just weight room and running. ... That’s just not happening. It’s great to see these guys around.''
And then the coach added, "Hopefully we can keep the golf carts upright.''
The golf cart comment is of course a reference to Wilson's recent experience at Arrowhead Golf Course in Colorado, as it is now being reported that Wilson may or may not have been at the wheel when he and Justin Simmons somehow accidentally flipped their golf cart into a bunker. ... all in search of an errant golf ball.
"If I had to guess, I’d say it was Russ’ ball,” an eyewitness said. “Seems like they were looking for his ball all freaking day.”
Wilson and Simmons came away from the incident unharmed, physically. But in terms of bruised egos? Russell Wilson - especially after his awful season in Denver following his trade request being answered by his former team, the Seattle Seahawks - probably has one of those. And here's betting that Payton knows exactly what he's doing in taking a gentle poke at a quarterback he hopes can get it straighter than one of Russell's golf shots.
