Analyst: Steelers Could Make Move for Bears QB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of a strange time. Despite criticism about Kenny Pickett as their starter, the team quickly realized they might be in even more trouble without him.
Now, their quarterback situation is being taken into consideration when discussing the future. And one analyst believes a young quarterback could be headed to Pittsburgh to join the Steelers this offseason.
That quarterback is Justin Fields. The Chicago Bears quarterback could be on the trade block this offseason as the team is considering drafting a quarterback with the first overall pick. If he is on the move, CBS Sports' Emory Hunt believes the Steelers should be his landing spot.
"I keep asking, what if Chicago does want to off Justin Fields? That’s an option, an avenue that I think Pittsburgh could go down," Hunt said. "It wouldn’t shock me to see them call Chicago and see what their temperature with Justin Fields is."
Fields will enter the final year of his rookie deal next season, leaving the Steelers with a year to decide if he's the future of the position. With a lower draft pick coming, Pittsburgh's best option to replace their current quarterback lineup may be with a veteran - and Fields being just 24 years old means there's plenty of time left for him to emerge into a franchise QB for the Steelers.
Earlier this season, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky claimed Fields would be an upgrade over Pickett, with many agreeing. If he does become an option in the spring, it'll be interesting to see if Pittsburgh decides to make a move for a developing player.
